After a good success at Cadwell Park in May, for the Time Attack UK round 1, setting the fastest time in Clubman+ class and beating the class track record we joined the Championship again for Round 4 at Oulton Park, This time in the Club Class which allows for unlimited engine, suspension and weight reduction upgrades as well as non factory aero upgrades!
Saw some serious full on race car machinery in the 20 entries and the PERON TTRS still in Clubman+ spec so a big challenge ahead and this was Sean’s first visit to the circuit!
A sold out spectator crowd allocation of 4,000 and 1,000 more in the paddock made for a great atmosphere together with the scorching hot weather!
The first session was cut short but we could see the potential with the TTRS 1st place on the top speed chart in sector 1 and 2nd best in the the other two sectors, even after only 4 exploratory laps we finished the session P9.
Unfortunately a vacuum hose to the turbo actuator came loose so the next (no boost!!) session was a lesson in being overtaken! During the fix we found a broken cam sensor connector that meant we missed Qualifying.
Great teamwork from Nick, Nathan and James and with only 15 mins to go before the final we had a solution with Nick uploading a newly modified DS1 file that made the variable cam not variable....or so we hoped!
Sean was able to start stringing some laps together and even though the power wasn’t as strong we ended up with a decent on track battle with the FastR M3 with both cars on hot laps, the TTRS just edging out the BMW and posting a 1:36.9 good for 14th in a very close field with only 2 seconds between 5th and 14th place. We were the fastest single round entry out of 5 so earned a trophy and a bottle of bubbly!
All in all, a roller coaster day but Sean is very happy with Nicks track focussed DS1 tune, and feels that there’s much more to come from the PERON TTRS! The next round we will be picking up in the Time Attack UK championship is Donington on August 31st!
