Akrapovič at the WEC – 6 Hours of Silverstone
August 28, 2018
The World Endurance Championship (WEC) is one of the most exciting and hotly contested events in motorsport It features teams from, amongst others, BMW, Aston Martin, Porsche, Ford and Toyota, and attracts some of the finest drivers around, including ex-F1 champions Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. More importantly for us, both Aston Martin Racing and BMW MTEC are supported by Akrapovič exhausts – developed for the very pinnacle of endurance racing.
With many millions of pounds’ worth of high-tech cars to check out, the pit lane was flurry of activity as teams made their final preparations and the VIP guests did their best to get in the way of the assembled press.
With blistering hot conditions, the track offered supreme levels of grip and the pace was relentless. The LM P1 and P2 cars soon showed their advantage, even managing to make some of the LM GTE racecars look slow.
That said, the #97 Akrapovic-equipped Aston Martin Vantage finished a creditable 14th overall and 4th in their LM GTE Pro class, against some very stiff opposition.
Aside from the racing itself there was something of a party atmosphere, especially in the retail village where BMW and Aston Martin had stands alongside the main WEC hub.
The outright winners were Rebellion Racing with their staggeringly quick #3 Rebellion R13. Thanks to Akrapovič and Aston Martin Racing for being our hosts and to UK Akrapovič dealers, CLP Automotive and RE Performance for joining us.
