PERON Tuning Stage 2 ECU Calibration Package for BMW F87N M2 Competition

As with all major developments at PERON Automotive, our S55B30 calibration is the culmination of months of dedicated work by highly experienced engineers in our world-class facility. Despite our time spent on the N54 and N55 engines over the years, we approached the S55B30 and its twin turbos with a clean sheet. Months of in-depth research and development with the Bosch MED17.2.G ECU allowed us to fine-tune the engine’s behaviour to perfection. The results speak for themselves—not only in raw performance metrics but also in the enhanced driveability that transforms every driving experience.

Enhanced Driveability and Performance

Designed to increase engine output to between 525-550 horsepower and 525-550 ft-lbs of torque, the Stage 2 takes advantage of the S55B30's inherent potency. The engine is so strong that careless tuning can easily exceed the capabilities of the chassis and tyres. Because of this, careful consideration was given to driveability and controllability, which is why the engine torque has been left at a conservative level. The primary goal is to refine power delivery, enhancing the response and smoothness of acceleration while improving on the factory driveability for a better driving experience.

Fuel Requirements and Efficiency

The Stage 2 calibration is optimised for 99 RON fuel. 97-98 RON can be used but will reduce performance and efficiency. By optimising fuel usage, this stage ensures that the engine operates efficiently, making the most of the increased power while maintaining the car's fuel economy.

ECU Tuning Highlights for the BMW S55B30

  • Enhanced Torque and Load Management: Optimised internal calculations improve external control, delivering smoother power distribution while maintaining correct torque output to the gearbox and chassis.
  • Boost Control Refinement: Adjustments to boost pressure provide quicker turbocharger response and more consistent power delivery, making acceleration feel more immediate and forceful without shocking the drivetrain with too much sudden torque.
  • Throttle Characteristic Optimisation: Adjustments to throttle maps for linear control of engine output. This provides a significant improvement to driveability.
  • Fuel Delivery Optimisation: Modified fuel flow and increased cylinder pressure management ensure the engine remains safe while delivering higher performance, supporting more aggressive driving without compromising reliability.
  • Lambda Optimisation: Perfected air-fuel ratio adjustments improve both efficiency and safety, ensuring optimal performance even under high power outputs.
  • Ignition Timing Enhancements: Fine-tuned ignition for maximum power and smoothness, while maintaining engine safety and fuel efficiency, resulting in better throttle response and combustion precision.
  • Camshaft Timing Adjustments: Tweaked camshaft timing enhances both responsiveness and peak power, improving torque in low RPMs and maintaining power at high speeds.
  • Speed Limiter Removal: The factory-imposed speed limit is removed, unlocking the true potential.
  • Quiet Cold Start: An optional quiet cold start feature reduces noise during engine warm-up, perfect for maintaining neighbourhood peace in the mornings.

xHP DCT Tuning Stages

STAGE 2

Stage 2 files focus on the sporty aspects, without compromising comfort. Shift points and Clutch-Pressures are adapted to speed up shifting and reduce reaction times.

The Stage 2 files are for people wanting faster shifts and more responsive driving experience, but not want to sacrifice any comfort.

  • Gear Display in Dash in all modes (where available)
  • Optimised D & S shift points for better acceleration in part and full throttle situations
  • Approx. 25% faster shifts overall
  • Faster paddle response time
  • Optimised Torque Converter Lockup in 1st/2nd/3rd gear
  • Torque Limits set to 1000 Nm (737 ftlb)

STAGE 3

Stage 3 Maps are made for everyone having fun driving fast and going to race-tracks. While the standard D-Mode mostly retains factory smoothness the Sport and Manual modes are optimised for the fastest shifts possible. Eventually features like Launch Control and “True Manual Mode” are added.

The Stage 3 files are our most sporty calibrations, changing the driving experience totally. While all Stage 3 files retain full comfort and can be used in every daily car, the behaviour changes when switching to S or M. Massively reduced shift times and throttle blips in manual mode show what your auto transmission is capable of. On top of  Stage 2 features include;

  • Torque limits raised to maximum
  • Approx. 25% faster shifts in D mode
  • Approx. 50% faster shifts in S and M mode
  • rev-matched downshifting (Throttle-Blip)
  • True Manual Mode (no forced upshift at RPM limiter)
  • Instant paddle response time
